Easter is one of my favorite holidays. As a Christian, it’s significance is paramount. I also love the time of year and the sweet traditions that go along with it. Attending Easter service, celebrating the resurrection, and seeing family are the most important parts of the holiday. However, my older kids still look forward to their Easter baskets.
One thing I love to include is a devotional or Bible. I put together a few of my favorites through the years, along with some that I’m considering for this year. These are sorted by age group, FYI.
Preschool – Lower Elementary:
This sweet little Bible has great illustrations, and is perfect for bedtime. Each story is short enough to hold their attention, and sometimes we would read more than one. As they grew, we would talk about the stories and our faith. This is a must have for little ones.
This is another sweet option for elementary girls. It’s written from the perspective of famous female Bible characters. It’s also great for bedtime.
Middle Elementary:
This devotional is so good. We used to read it every morning during breakfast. It sparked so many good conversations, too. The length is just right. Most days take less than five minutes.
Upper Elementary and Middle School:
My preteen boys and I have really enjoyed this devotional. I particularly like that it has a prayer built in. Also the reflection question has led to some great conversations.
This one is definitely more geared to boys. It’s written like a graphic novel, and it is based on the Bible without being a true translation. This one is our “car Bible” LOL. It stays in the car, and the boys will read it while we drive around or if we have to wait somewhere. They really enjoy it.
Last, but not least, this one is wonderful for teen girls. My daughter reads this one on her own, and she loves it. Several times, she has brought up things in the devotional, sharing how it’s challenged her to grow in her faith.
I hope these inspire you to include something besides candy in your child’s Easter basket this year. If you have teens or preteens, what is your favorite Christian resource?
