2021 was an exciting year, and I’m so happy with what I was able to accomplish in my home.
My philosophy on home projects is to focus on one space at time, finishing it completely before starting on the next one. I also have a strict rule about buying anything for the house unless it’s for the room I’m working on. It’s completely changed the way I look at my home. While I admit I’ve broken my rule a couple of times, overall, I’m sticking to it.
March: Painted & Stenciled Tile floors.
This band-aid renovation was more than I bargained for, but it really turned out great.
If you’re not familiar with the term “band-aid renovation or band-aid solution,” it means, “A quick, superficial, or temporary solution to a problem that does not address or resolve the underlying cause of said problem.” (source) Basically, it’s a quick fix.
One of my favorite DIY-ers, Valeria Jacobsen, uses the term. I think the idea is perfect and totally my style. I love making a space gorgeous without spending a fortune. There’s definitely a time and place for full renovations, but it’s not where I am right now. I’m 100% ok with it, too.

April: Pantry Shelves & Mini Makeover
We still don’t have a door for this space yet, but other than that, this project was a slam dunk. I painted and added new shelving and a small refrigerator to this underused space by our back door. It went from junk room to storage space. This year, I’m hoping to get this room more organized.

June: Foyer Update
This small space by our front door now makes a big style statement. I am still in love with it, and have barely changed it at all — which says a LOT. I painted, added wallpaper, updated the lighting, and stripped the buffet cabinet to a pretty natural wood.

August/September: Master Bedroom Closet
This space was a constant source of stress for me. I shared the process of cleaning out, repainting the space, changing lighting, and adding some much needed organization. It’s still clean BTW!

October/November: Office Update
The biggest eyesore in the house has become my favorite room. I took a major chance painting the room and bookshelves a bold gray green. The midcentury desk and vintage, eclectic gallery wall add so much style to the room. Note: As of this date, the outlets and light switches are still not finished! Ugh. I’m seriously doing those this week. Also, I need a new pic of this room. I did actually get a photo for the empty frame, haha.

On the Docket for 2022
January – Business Launch
I just launched Bayou Blonde Marketing, so I’m taking a breather from home projects for a month or so. You can read about my business here, and find my business page on social media here. It’s a Social Media Marketing business, and I’m super excited about it.
This page is a work in progress, but you can get more information here.
February & March: Guest Bathroom
I started a redecorating my guest bathroom during the holidays. It’s also Little Miss Bayou’s main bathroom, so I’m limited on what I can do. It’s not bad, but it’s also not great.
Here’s the plan:
Replace the mirror and light fixture
Add organization
Give it a WOW factor — It’s pretty bland right now
April – June: Kitchen & Dining Room
My kitchen and dining room are in need of some love. A couple of years ago, I did a band aid renovation on the backsplash. I need to finish what I started.
Here’s the list:
Install dimmers
Change the light fixture over island and in the dining room
Finish updating the knobs
Change island brackets
Organize kitchen & pantries
Purchase hutch for existing buffet
Replace kitchen runner and dining room rug (maybe?)
Replace Curtains
Artwork/photos in dining room
August – November: Living Room
The living room will be the big focus for the rest of the year. I have some ideas about bringing in more color. I will be keeping the sofas, but I’m going to cover the little loveseat (moved here from the office).
Here’s the game plan:
Unify the focal point; possibly paint fireplace
Create a cohesive color story with pillows and possibly different rug
Update the loveseat cover
DIY or replace coffee table
Lamps
Styling & artwork on mantle and coffee table
New curtains
New ceiling fan (a must in South Louisiana)
Sconces above fireplace
What do you think? There are other spaces that I’d love to work on, but I’ve learned that it’s best to pick one space and really make it amazing. I also need to work on some of these old pages on my site. Yikes! I’ve learned so much in my first year of blogging!
Next week, I’ll share the design board for our open living space, along with a fun reader question about styling a guest bathroom. Stay tuned for a fun fashion post and a quick Keto recipe too.
